SUMMARY:Fall Forage and Herb Walk with Catherine Hunziker
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Sunday October 11th from 10am to 12:30pm for a herb walk and foraging class at the Herbiculture Hub Farm! \nWe will look at the medicinal demonstration garden as well as take a walk around the whole farm to see the wild medicinals and edibles in several different microclimates.\nWe will discuss herbs that do well in our climate and learn how to use them for almost any assignment. You will also learn how to fast track your plant learning journey with some basic identification tools and how to categorize major plant families. \nYour Teachers:\nCatherine Hunziker is an herbalist with over 40 years of experience who has built WishGarden Herbs from a small midwife business into a national brand. Her new nonprofit\, The Herbiculture Project\, seeks to localize herbal supply chains and help communities take control of their health while helping farmers become more profitable and regenerative. \nOliver Aurand is an organic farmer and a founder of Friends Farm with 10 years of experience in permaculture\, botany\, foraging and survival skills. He has taught classes in multiple states and applies this knowledge of varied ecosystems and food ways to share a holistic view of our natural world.\nThis event is the first in a collaboration between the Herbiculture Project and Friends Farm\, as we seek to create deep community around food and medicine. We would love for you to be co-creators on this journey with us! \nThe cost is a sliding scale of $30-40 \nDate: 10/11 10am-12:30pm\nLocation: The Herbiculture Hub Farm\n9722 Empire Rd\, Louisville\, CO 80027 \nThis event is part of our collaboration between the Herbiculture Project and Friends Farm\, as we seek to create deep community around food and medicine. SUMMARY:Mexican Meets Western Herbalism
DESCRIPTION:Explore the meeting place between Mexican herbal traditions and Western herbalism. Drawing from Mexican folk medicine\, curanderismo\, and Western clinical herbalism\, we’ll explore how plants have long been understood as practical medicines as well as part of a larger relationship between people\, place\, food\, and healing. Together we’ll look at ways these traditions understand herbs differently\, as well as where they overlap. We’ll discuss traditional Mexican plants and preparations alongside Western herbal concepts such as energetics\, herbal actions\, formulation\, and the clinical use of medicinal plants. \nAbout the Herbalist\nSofia Arana-Miranda is a Certified Clinical Herbalist\, educator\, folk practitioner\, and ceremonialist whose work bridges Western clinical herbalism with Mexican plant traditions and folk medicine. Alongside her formal study\, her relationship with Mexican folk medicine is rooted in Mexica family lineage and a personal connection to the traditions of curanderismo. Her work is an ongoing exploration of how different systems of plant knowledge can be held alongside one another with context\, respect\, and curiosity. She is particularly interested in preserving the cultural roots of herbal traditions while making practical plant knowledge accessible to people today. \n  \nAll are welcome. No previous herbal experience is required. \n  \nDate: Sunday\, November 15th\nTime: 11:00 am – 1:00 pm\nLocation: Nyland Cohousing Commonhouse\, 3525 Nyland Way Lafayette\, CO 80026\nCost / Registration: Sliding Scale $25-35
